About

Fabguru aka Alex Schaub is a specialist within the global Fablab network, and offers unique services around the globe to help making Fablabs a success. By injecting new creativity in existing labs, giving master classes and lectures, as well as setting up new labs from scratch, and tailor made formats around your given context, Fabguru wants to contribute best practices within the field of digital fabrication world wide.

As the manager of the Fablab Amsterdam, one of the most studied Fablabs in the world, and 7 years experience as the driving force behind it, I can help you with any aspect that makes your Fablab a success. From planning to implementing, from space design to maintenance, from lectures to master classes, from prototyping to master pieces, from hardware to software, from form to function, Fabguru stands for professional quality in creative innovation in the field of analog and digital fabrication.

A Fablab is much more than a functional digital fabrication laboratory. Space design is crucial for social engineering. A Fablab should have open access at least 2 days per week, in order to bring diversity into the lab. It’s the diversity that often leads to innovation, and also to local communities of makers. Knowledge sharing is common practice and has resulted in a worldwide pool of resources and documentation on any kind of technique you can imagine.
